Mike Rigby: Managing Director

Mike Rigby has spent most of his working life in building materials, construction and home improvements markets in both market research and marketing.

He began his market research career with the British Sulphur Corporation, which specialised in fertiliser markets worldwide. He then joined BOC and the Industrial Research Bureau before moving to ICI Paints, researching opportunities for Dulux in the UK and Europe. While at ICI he set up and ran the Household Omnibus Survey and the Industrial Research Unit and worked on both quantitative and qualitative research projects in trade, specification, industrial and consumer markets.

Early on he understood the need to get to grips with the dynamics of market behaviour, what makes markets tick, and the importance of measuring brand strength and reputation. He always translated research findings into clear recommendations for strategy and immediate action.

His marketing career took him into builders’ merchants, where he was the marketing executive of UBM Builders’ Merchants, and then windows, doors and conservatories where he progressed from Marketing Director of the third largest retail company to Sales and Marketing director of Thurgar Bardex plc. He set up Michael Rigby Associates in 1992 to provide market research and marketing services to the building materials, construction and home improvements markets.

Mike continues to insist on establishing clear briefs for research which produces the information and insight that makes your marketing work. He is also just as determined to summarise concisely the significance of the research, in order to provide the foundations for clear recommendations for marketing strategy and action.
